Aug 16, 2008
by Global News Network / Contributor

The Danish Refugee Council, one of the leading International Non-Governmental Organizations which is restlessly providing a gargantuan humanitarian services to thousands of Liberians in the Southeastern part of the country has won the hearts of many, due to its robust humanitarian assistance for the needy.
Residents of Maryland, Grand Kru and River Gee Counties, who spoke to the Global News Network (GNN) during a weeklong tour of the area, expressed gratitude to the organization for ably coming to their aide during their hours of distress; especially provision of safe drinking water and shelters for vulnerable people.
The residents, mostly women, told the GNN that they were overwhelmed by the high level of humanitarian support given them by the DRC since its inception a decade years ago, including the building of bridges, the construction of countless numbers of household latrines, the building of shelters, wells for safe drinking water and helping to recondition several schools in their counties.
During the tour several vulnerable persons who are direct beneficiaries of the DRC’s construction of shelters and kits told the GNN that they could not withhold their high feelings of thanks and appreciation to this Danish NGO for making them to once more regain their status in the society.
The construction of several hand pumps for residents in areas visited also saw that the DRC did not only provide these facilities but also went beyond by making available training opportunities to hundreds of community members for the maintenance of these pumps whenever technical problem develops in their respective locality.
Dozens of women and men of the Diabiville Farmers Group in Pleebo, Maryland County took the GNN on a tour of their thirty-eight acres of planted cassava farmland, also initiated and supported by the DRC through the availability of seeds, tools and technical advices.
During this tour, some of the women and men said they were pleased with the humanitarian assistance given them by the DRC over the years, adding, “Our hearts are filled with joy………due to the effort being applied by the DRC for us to be able to do something on our own”, an elderly woman speaking during the tour said.
As this NGO moves forward, the lips of hundreds of Southeasterners who spoke to the GNN bubbles with this three letter word “DRC”, showing their highly pleased sentiments for coming to their aide.
Tour of all DRC projects also took the GNN in Grand Kru County where hundreds of women and men were seen in their jubilant mood to welcome the arrival the DRC delegation to their area.
The residents in separate interviews with the GNN said they were happy to receive the DRC team, because, according to them it has done a lot for them in empowering them for the better.
