Liberians Disgruntled Over Increased Wave of Armed Robberies In Monrovia, Asks God to Send “Joe Tate” Back
Aug 24, 2008
by Global News Network / Contributor

FLASHBACK: A victim of armed robbery in the pool of blood dead
“The increase wave of armed robberies in most communities in and around Monrovia is indeed worrisome; this proved that the Central Government has failed the people miserably in the protection of lives in our country”, words of, Daniel Kollie, a University Professor whose brother was killed last week by armed men in Barnersville, the suburb of Monrovia.

Mr. Kollie is among dozes of victims who during an exclusive interview expressed their frustration over the increase wave of armed robberies in Monrovia, the Liberian capital city which has swelled up with presence of thousands of non-residents returned from displaced and refugee camps.

On a monthly basis, six to eight persons are gunned down by armed robberies, while dozens of others are made homeless by these criminal minded individuals; visiting the homes of peaceful citizens.

Just last week, a prospective graduate of the University of Liberia’s Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law was gunned down at his residence 11:00 PM while trying to study that evening.

The death of this young fellow drew chill bombs on the membranes of several of his neighbors, after the news broke out that the late law student was being shot in at his residence while on his study table that evening by armed men.

The untimely home going of this young prospective graduate of the University of Liberia as a result of the attack on his life by armed robbers is amongst dozens of other victims who lives are taking away easily by these criminals with nothing publicly been heard about their arrest and immediate prosecution.

Some of those who spoke to the GNN over the weekend regarding the increased wave of armed robberies in Monrovia and its environs said they were “Disappointed over the slow pace of bringing those criminals to justice by the Liberian Government”, and urged the government to do something about this situation.

“We hope Joe Tate was alive; a man who made armed robbers to flee for their lives all days and nights long. If Joe Tate was around here this nonsense; taking away innocent lives would have been brought to an immediate end. Joe Tate is today being missed……..We missed Joe Tate my brother”, Sara J. Barclay, a businesswoman in a chat with the GNN noted.

Due to the increased wave of armed robberies in the City and its environs, several Liberians and foreign residents are now secretly purchasing weapons (cutlasses, knives and any other weapons that could be used for self-defense in the wake of the continues armed robberies in the country.
